What is Critical Mass? An event that encourages people to use bicycle as a means of transport and recreation. We also want to draw the attention of the authorities to the need to develop the bicycle infrastructure in Piatra-Neamț. Critical Mass is a mass walk with bikes that usually takes place on the last Friday of each month in several cities around the globe. It is an effort to promote alternative (non-motorized) means of transport and to draw attention to the safety concerns of those using non-motorized forms of transport when they have to share the road with motorized traffic. The general philosophy behind this event is expressed in the slogan "We do not block traffic; we are part of the traffic." Critical Mass events are self-organized, non-commercial and noncompetitive, and operate through informal, "diffusion" decision-making, independent of leaders. Participants demonstrate the benefits of cycling in the city and emphasize ways in which the authorities do not meet the expectations of cyclists in terms of safety and facilities.

The founding volunteers of the local community RO100 Piatra-Neamţ share a common ideal, that they are promoters of the civic involvement concept.
