The "Baal Shem Tov" wooden synagogue from Piatra Neamţ is a testimony of numerous Jewish communities that have existed since the Middle Ages.
The current building was built on the oldest place, based on the letter of July 19, 1766, signed by the voivode Grigore III Ghica.
The old synagogue was by stone, but since the early 18th century it was only allowed to raise wooden synagogues.
In the eastern wall of the synagogue is a "One Holy," a true work of art made of wood carved in 1835 by Sharaga Iţchok ben Moische, disposed in three floors, each of them standing on rounded columns covered with bronze and silver.
The altar, blown with gold, is 250 years old. The synagogue is linked to the name of Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism.
