The construction of the cabin began in the spring of 1913 and was completed in the fall of the same year. It is the first tourist cabin built in the Eastern Carpathians. Over the years, it has been extended several times, and the accommodation capacity has gradually increased.   As a result of the severe damage of the mountain shelter during the First World War, important restoration works were carried out. On August 6, 1922, on the occasion of the celebration of Ceahlău (Mountain Day as the locals call it), the renovated cabin with approximately 30 seats was again made available to hikers, this time for a long time. 606 people were present at the inauguration. The next restoration of the cabin took place in 1946, and in 1958-1959 it was expanded to accommodate more tourists (120 places). Old rooms were completed with new ones, with stone walls fixed with mortar and electric light was introduced. In 1962, the cottage could accommodate 150 tourists at the cottages. In the years 1984-1988, the capacity and comfort conditions of the lodge increased by adding a new wing, with three levels. The cabin was recently renovated and the restaurant serves a varied meniu. Additionally, tourists can enjoy a sauna and an outdoor hot bath.

The Secu Monastery is a hearth of spiritual life whose age is almost 500 years. On the feudal domain of the Neamț Citadel, on the valley of the Secu river, around the year 1500, a group of hermits settled who, in time, founded in 1530 under the leadership of Hieroschimonach Zosima, a monk from the Neamț Monastery, the hermitage with the same name: Zosima's Hermitage . Ruler Petru Rareș built the church of the Zosima Hermitage on the site of the current church of the monastery cemetery. The hermitage was fenced with a stone wall in 1550 by Elena, the voivode's wife, and her sons, a small part of which is still preserved at the entrance to the monastery, next to the current church of the cemetery, where the entrance gate to the hermitage was and its bell tower. The same ruler Petru Rares, in his first reign, strengthened his control over the lands that belonged to the estate of the Neamț Fortress, donating these lands for the use of the monks from the valley of the Secu river. Bishop Melchisedec Ștefănescu, speaking about the beginnings of the Secu Monastery, recalls that until 1910 there was on the wall of the monastery bell tower, in the niche where there is now a fresco of St. John the Baptist, the original painting from the church built by Voivode Petru Rares, painting which was damaged by grinding due to the harshness of the times. During the time of voivodes Alexandru Lăpușneanul (1552-1561 and 1564-1568), Petru Șchiopu (1574-1579) and Aron Tiranul (1591-1595), the Zosima Hermitage received some donations for the use and maintenance of the hermit monks from these places. Towards the end of the 16th century, the Hermitage of Zosima experienced a special development, especially from an economic point of view: private grants are now supplemented with royal grants and confirmations, and the name of Abbot Dosoftei, one of Zosima's disciples, is often mentioned in the reasons for being close to the oldest and most powerful monks from the Neamț Monastery.

In the historic city center, next Royal Church "Saint Ioan Domnesc", is located the Bell Tower or Ștefan's the Great Tower. Built in year 1499, one year away from the building of the church. On the front of the tower it can be seen brickworks and the famous small discs of enamel and colored terracotta. Nowadays in the room of bells it can be find four bells: the big one from 17th century, has an unique sound, one from the 19th century and another two bells that was cast recently. An urban legend says that in Ștefan's the Great Tower lived almost 26 years old Gheorghe Lazăr, a real pilgrim, unique for his spiritual life. On the half of 19th century it's made the heightening of the tower, above the last medieval level creating a room for "fire watchers". The device of the first big clock of the Bell Tower was brought from Viena in year 1861. Over the time the device of the clock has been changed several times and the actual one was installed in year 1920 with the contribution of merchants from the area.

If you still made the effort to reach Dochia Cabin, it would be a shame not to also climb the Toaca Peak (altitude 1904 meters). And don't be put off by the 519 steps! These are extremely photogenic and we're sure you'll take lots of great pictures to frame. As for the view from the top, it is truly overwhelming. You will be able to admire the entire plateau of the Ceahlău Massif, the Panaghia rock (one of the symbols of the mountain), the Izvorul Muntelui lake (considered the sea of the Carpathians) and many other settlements, including the city of Piatra Neamț (only 30 km away in a straight line).
